Mullein, has a soothing effect on bronchioles. It works as an expectorant, it helps expel mucus and to soothe mucous membranes.  
The saponins in mullein may be responsible for its expectorant actions.  In addition to its anti inflammatory properties, it also has demulcents.  These  have a soothing effect on inflamed lungs.  Often used as a remedy for the respiratory tract, particularly in cases of irritating coughs with bronchial congestion.

It is high in mucilage, making it helpful for symptomatic relief of coughs and irritated throats. 

Rosemary has significant antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-apoptotic, anti-tumorigenic, antinociceptive, and neuroprotective properties. Furthermore, it shows important clinical effects on mood, learning, memory, pain, anxiety, and sleep.

It can improve lung inflammation and  exerts a restoring effect on lung tissue  that are abnormally activated in lung fibrosis.

Studies show that it may have considerable anti-tumor and chemo prevention properties in lung cancer.  It is the  polyphenols found in rosemary that has potent antioxidant activities and  anti-carcinogenic properties.  These polyphenols also reduces oxidative stress and lung fibrosis.

Rosemary comes with the bonus of helping with neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer,  given the recognized role of inflammation and oxidative stress in them.

 

Lemon balm has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities and is used in various diseases.  Including inhibiting lung tumor growth and causing programmed cell death and lung cancer cells.  

Historically lemon balm has been said to possess sedative- and/or tranquilizing-, anti-gas, fever-reducing, antibacterial, spasmolytic, hypotensive, memory-enhancing, menstrual-inducing, and thyroid-related effects; anti viral and anti oxidant activities; anti fungal, anti parasitic, and anti spasmolytic activities; and flatulence; it is widely used for asthma; bronchitis; amenorrhea; cardiac failure; arrhythmias; ulcers; and wounds.

Besides these, it is effective in treatment of headaches, indigestion, colic, nausea, nervousness, anemia, vertigo, syncope, malaise, insomnia, epilepsy, depression, psychosis, and hysteria.

Cedarwood oil can help to remove phlegm from the lungs and respiratory tract. It is helpful if you suffer from asthma, bronchitis .

Cedarwood essential oil efficiently reduces coughs and discharges phlegm from the lungs and respiratory tract, thereby relieving congestion. Furthermore, the oil can help to relieve other symptoms of a cold such as a headache and watery eyes.

Cedarwood essential oil is reassuring and comforting as a natural deodorizer. Furthermore, it possesses a pleasant, wood-like scent.

Patchouli  has potent anti-inflammatory activity.

​

For centuries it has been used by traditional physicians in treating the common cold, nausea and diarrhea and is applied topically to treat headaches and fever.

In aromatherapy it acts as an aphrodisiac and aids in the sharpening of intelligence, attention, and intuition. It is used in spiritual incense to help create a relaxing ambiance.  Patchouli has a selective prohibition effect on fungus and a strong prohibitory effect on bacteria causing pneumonia and chronic meningitis, as well as exhibiting an anti-influenza effect.

Patchouli plants are known to contain farnesene and farnesol. Hence patchouli essential oil may be able to help with COVID-19 symptoms. This oil also helps to inhibit lung cancer tumour growth.

Ylang Ylang significantly increased calmness and is commonly used in aromatherapy as a treatment for symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Known for its sedative and calming effects, ylang ylang may help to decrease blood pressure, relieve stress, and promote an overall sense of well-being.

 

Ylang ylang is used in some medicinal traditions as a natural remedy (often dried or made into a paste and applied directly to the skin) for the following conditions such as, gastrointestinal issues, gout (a type of inflammatory arthritis), malaria, asthma, arthritis, respiratory problems, and headache.

 

That being said…

 

Essential Oil Precautions

 

It’s not safe to ingest essential oil orally. It can cause nausea, vomiting, thirst and damage to the digestive system. Do not use if you are pregnant. Undiluted these essential oils can cause skin irritations.

 

How to use Breathe Easy.

​

The loose leave tea:

Add 1 tsp of loose leaf tea to a cup of boiled water.

Steep covered for approximately 10 min. and enjoy with or without honey.

 

Aromatherapy Directions:

Add 10 drops of essential oil to the hot tea and steam under a towel.

OR

Add 10 drops of essential oil to the cold tea and add the mixture to your humidifier or diffuser. Inhale the steam vapours for as long as its hot. Alternatively, steep the tea, but COVER it, and then add it to your diffuser.
