Comfrey is one of the most ancient medicinal herbs with its uses stretching back into antiquity. It is believed to be an excellent anti-inflammatory and can help reduce swelling, bruises, heal torn and pulled ligaments, increase healing time for breaks and strains, and even reduce joint pain.
Comfrey leaves contain allantoin, a substance that promotes cell growth, as a result it should not be used on deep wounds. However it can be used on shallow scrapes and cuts.

St John’s wort helps relieve pain caused by arthritis and rheumatism whilst also helps to heal muscle injuries.
It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help treat bruises, muscle aches, sprains, joint pains, and nervous system related pain. It is especially helpful for back pain.
Yarrow salve is typically used to treat minor topical injuries, including cuts, scrapes, burns, and rashes.
Specifically, yarrow leaves have powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, anti-bacterial, wound healing, and blood coagulating properties when applied to the skin.
Yarrow tends to close wounds quickly, so don’t use it on puncture wounds, and obviously severe wounds should be treated by a doctor or emergency room. This salve is more for minor cuts and scrapes, like skinned knees.
Yarrow should be avoided if you have an allergy to plants in the Asteraceae family (like daisies, ragweed, marigolds, or sunflowers).
